Biography
Morgan Bakaletz (b. 2000) is a cautious, strange creature currently residing on a big, spinning rock. After being born in Eastern Tennessee, Morgan quickly found solace in nearby forests. You may find her in the woods.
Locally grown in Norris, Tennessee, Bakaletz graduated from East Tennessee State University (magna cum laude) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art, focusing in painting and printmaking. Bakaletz’s work has been exhibited in several shows throughout Northeastern Tennessee, as well as some outside of the region. She won Faculty Choice Award in 2023, the Student-Faculty Collaborative Grant in 2022, and Honorable Mention for the Congressional Art Competition in 2018. Her exploration of visionary landscapes and the botanical study of imaginary plants stems from a deep connection with nature and a journey of self-understanding. Her work reflects her personal experiences as a masculine-presenting queer woman, navigating the complexities of solitude, humor, grief, and heartache. She is currently an Artist in Residence at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee, and planning on attending graduate school for an interdisciplinary MFA program. |
